I stayed here for a night mid October on a new moon night.. I was riding with a group and reached here around sundown, very exhausted after about 200km ride of which last 1/10th was all off road patch (from Umling La region, where even Google maps doesn’t have a charted map of the route. Temperature was already plummeting.. And the water lines froze post evening. But the crew here was supportive and helped other guests in all manner to provide them basic comfort and hot water till about 2000, and served the dinner early dinner. My favourite part began post dinner, since the location of this resort is away from Hanle town, and the new moon night, I used all my strength and determination to shoot the night sky. While I agree October isn’t the best phase for getting the full glory of the Milky Way, it was a perfect opportunity for getting M31 (Andromeda Galaxy) at meridian .. I stayed till temperatures went to about -8°C and I could barely keep my eyes open and operating the cold metal body of my camera became even more difficult. I stayed out till post midnight, even phone device gave cold temperature warning at that time. Next morning, the staff woke up early and gave us hot breakfast. We went off at around 0830 and temperature was still below zero. I’d say this, one doesn’t go to Hanle as a tourist, but as a terrain hardened traveller. Finding basic comfort of a bed, food and hot for just staying afloat is all I’d recommend to expect while you’re there.

We visited the resort in the month of September and we had a wonderful stay at HOR Resort in Hanle. The stay and hospitality were absolutely top-notch! The property is very new, clean, comfortable, and extremely well maintained. Our hosts were very friendly, welcoming, and always available whenever we needed anything, which made the entire stay even more pleasant. The resort also has a hot water facility, which is a big plus in Hanle’s cold weather. One of the highlights was the complimentary telescope provided by the resort at night for stargazing. Being in Hanle, the night sky is incredible, and having a telescope made the experience even more memorable. Overall, a very comfortable and peaceful stay with excellent hospitality. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Hanle.
